By Stationify Oy, Helsinki · Updated 17 October 2026

In short: Petanque: Score & Tournament runs a club competition and keeps score in the park, in one free app. It has a Swiss system ranked by wins, point difference and Buchholz, plus round robin, single elimination and Mêlée-Casse, for singles, doubles and triples to 11, 13 or 15 points, with piste assignment that flags clashes. In the park it scores round by round with undo, a Live Activity and an Apple Watch scorer, estimates distances in AR, and settles arguments with a searchable FIPJP rule reference and a dispute resolver. Player profiles, head-to-head records and 21 achievements keep your club’s history. No ads, no in-app purchases, no account; it works offline, exports to PDF, image, CSV and JSON, and comes in 16 languages.

Petanque: Score & Tournament is Stationify’s app, for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. On the home screen it’s called Petanque, the name this page uses for it below.

There isn’t one dominant pétanque app on iPhone. These three are the established tournament and scoring tools we found. For official FFPJP competitions in France, the federation’s own software, Gestion Concours, is required at the scoring table, and none of these apps replaces it.

Facts checked on 17 October 2026, from each app’s own website, App Store listing and, for Tournois Pétanque App, its public source code. App Store privacy labels are each developer’s own statement.

Petanque vs. Petanque Manager

Petanque Manager (petanque-manager.com) is a free web app made in France for club competitions. It has the group stages French clubs use (ABC and AB), fixed and rotating mêlée, automatic court allocation, and live results that players and spectators open on their own phones with a QR code. It runs in any browser, so the scoring table can use a laptop. It also handles jeu provençal and palet.

Where Petanque differs:

  • Buchholz tiebreaks. Petanque ranks Swiss tournaments by wins, then point difference, then Buchholz, pairs each team with the highest-ranked opponent it hasn’t played, and documents how byes are given and scored.
  • The game as well as the competition. Round-by-round scoring, AR distance estimates, an Apple Watch scorer, stats with 21 achievements, a searchable FIPJP rule reference and a dispute resolver.
  • Offline, no account. Petanque works without an internet connection, and nothing leaves the device. Petanque Manager needs an organiser account, runs online and shows Google ads.
  • More exports. PDF, image, CSV and JSON.

Petanque vs. Tournois Pétanque App

Tournois Pétanque App is an open-source tournament app by a French developer that runs on nearly everything: iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and the web. It handles mêlée-démêlée, mêlée, championship, cup and multi-chance formats, fills uneven numbers automatically, and can balance teams by tagging players as shooters, pointers or children.

Where Petanque differs:

  • A Swiss system. Tournois Pétanque App has no Swiss format or Buchholz ranking.
  • No ads or tracking. Tournois Pétanque App shows Google ads, and its App Store label lists location, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as used to track you. Petanque has no ads, and its label is “Data Not Collected”.
  • Apple Watch, measuring and live scoring. Petanque has a Watch scorer, AR distance estimates, and a Live Activity and widget for the game in progress.
  • Players and stats. Profiles with photos and flags, win rates, head-to-head records and 21 achievements.

Petanque vs. Boules Score

Boules Score is a clean, free scorer for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. It keeps score and time, saves your history with the weather, can turn an iPad into a scoreboard beside the piste, and syncs across your devices through iCloud.

Where Petanque differs:

  • Tournaments. Boules Score keeps score for one game; Petanque also runs a whole club competition with standings and piste assignment.
  • More in the park. AR distance estimates, player profiles with head-to-head records, achievements, and the rule reference.
  • Languages. 16, against Boules Score’s 3.
  • Settles the argument. A searchable FIPJP rule reference, a dispute resolver for the arguments that come up most, a coin toss and a random team picker.

What Petanque doesn’t do

To be fair about it:

  • No group stages. There’s no ABC or AB pool format, and no multi-chance or consolation draw.
  • No live results on players’ own phones. You can share exports, but there’s no public live page.
  • No Android, web or sync. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, stores data on the device and doesn’t sync between devices. The Watch scorer needs the iPhone nearby.
  • Not for official FFPJP competitions, which require the federation’s Gestion Concours.
  • AR distances are estimates. Confirm close points with a tape.
