Features

Read the omens. Strike first. Walk on.

Yonward is an infinite roguelike for iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo: you travel one endless, randomly generated pixel-art world in quick turn-based fights, played with one thumb, where every enemy shows its next move before it makes it.

  • Read the omens

Enemies show what they will do before they do it. A marching red line is a blow that will land. An orange bracket marks ground that punishes anyone who steps in.

  • Nothing moves until you do

Take your time, then step aside, push, shoot or strike first. Your blade reaches all eight squares around you. Break a guard, find the opening, and end the fight before it ends you.

  • An endless world

Every run is a new world, made as you walk. It never ends and it never repeats, and the land changes as you go: open meadows, deep forests, river fords, dark tunnels, quiet hamlets and stone castles.

  • The Gloam

Behind you rises the Gloam, a slow tide of darkness. It waits while you rest in villages and by campfires, but it never waits for long.

  • Day, night and fire

The sun sets and the dark closes in. A torch lights a small circle, and blows go astray in the dark. Make camp and sleep until dawn, but the wilds are not always kind to sleepers.

  • Gear and growth

Swords, maces, axes and bows, each with its numbers in plain sight, so you always know what is better. Chests, draughts, torches, camp kits and spell scrolls wait along the road. Level up and choose strength, dexterity, intelligence or constitution.

  • Made for your hand and your screen

Built for one-handed play on iPhone, with your hero low on the screen, where your thumb already is. The world fills the whole screen on iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo, folded or open, and a hardware keyboard works too.

  • Choose your look

Classic 16-colour tiles in the spirit of 1980s computer role-playing games, a monochrome handheld style where light is the only colour, or a softer retro palette.

  • Music played live

The music is played live by the game's own synthesizer.
