In short: of these three apps, Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore is the one that turns what you say in your sleep into text, on your device, and with Apple Intelligence it can suggest a gentle interpretation of what you said. It labels snoring, coughs, breathing, gasps and movement, places every sound on your Apple Health sleep stages, and shows Apple Watch breathing disturbances beside them, with nights inside a sleep apnea notification gathered for your doctor. Recording, transcripts and sound labels are free every night; Premium is US$29.99 a year or US$44.99 once, less than Pillow’s US$49.99 a year. No account, no cloud, no analytics, and you choose how long audio is kept, from 7 to 90 days.
Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore is Stationify’s app, for iPhone and iPad. On the home screen it’s called Sleep Talk, the name this page uses for it below.
Prices are US App Store prices checked on 17 October 2026. They change, and other storefronts differ. Facts about other apps come from their own websites, help centres, privacy policies and App Store listings.

Sleep Talk vs. SnoreLab
SnoreLab is the best-known snoring app. It gives each night a Snore Score, measures breathing stability (BreathFlow) and breathing rate, and lets you test remedies and lifestyle factors against each other. Premium records the whole night and backs audio up to the cloud. Its snore detection runs on the phone. It’s on Android too.
Where Sleep Talk differs:
- It transcribes. If you talk in your sleep, Sleep Talk turns clear speech into text on your device when the night ends. SnoreLab’s listing doesn’t mention sleep talk.
- Free every night. Sleep Talk’s free version records, transcribes and labels sounds every night and keeps the last 7 nights. SnoreLab’s free version can’t run two nights in a row after the first five sessions.
- Sounds on your sleep stages. With sleep data in Apple Health, every sound sits on the REM, Core or Deep stage it happened in, and Apple Watch breathing disturbances appear beside them.
- Ready for the doctor. With an Apple Watch, nights inside a sleep apnea notification are gathered in one place. Premium adds heart-rate responses around sounds and a summary to share with your doctor.
- No account, no analytics. SnoreLab uses Firebase and AppsFlyer, and its App Store label lists usage data as used to track you. Sleep Talk has no analytics, and audio never leaves your device.
- No score, by design. Sleep Talk counts minutes of snoring and lets you compare nights with and without a factor, such as alcohol or a nasal strip, once you have five of each. SnoreLab’s remedy testing goes further.
Sleep Talk vs. Pillow
Pillow is a complete sleep tracker, an App Store Editors’ Choice, with its own Apple Watch app, automatic sleep tracking, a smart alarm, naps and a sleep-sounds library. Like Sleep Talk, it needs no account and processes on the device. If you want one app for your whole night, Pillow does more.
Where Sleep Talk differs:
- Focused on sounds. Sleep Talk is built to find out what happens at night: what you said, when you snored, and which sleep stage it was in. Pillow records snoring, apnea and sleep talking but doesn’t transcribe, and its recordings are part of Premium.
- Price. Sleep Talk Premium is US$29.99 a year or US$44.99 once. Pillow Premium is US$49.99 a year or US$19.99 a month.
- Every sound in context. Each sound sits on the sleep stage it happened in, beside your Apple Watch breathing disturbances, so you can see when in the night you talk or snore.
- No analytics. Pillow uses Mixpanel, Statsig, Sentry and Adjust. Sleep Talk has none.
- What did that mean? Turn it on and, on devices with Apple Intelligence, an on-device model suggests a gentle interpretation of a sleep-talk fragment.
- You set the rules. Choose how sensitive detection is, from quiet mumblers to loud sleep-talkers, and keep clip audio for 7 to 90 days.
What Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore doesn’t do
To be fair about it:
- No Android. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later.
- No full-night recording. It saves clips of up to 15 seconds when a sound is loud enough, and counts quieter sounds as events without audio.
- No Snore Score. It shows how much you snored and when, not a single score.
- No backup or sync. Recordings stay on the device. Audio is kept for 7 to 90 days, your choice.
- Not a medical device. It doesn’t diagnose sleep apnea or any other condition.
Common questions
Which app can tell me what I say in my sleep?
Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore records clips when you talk and transcribes clear speech on your iPhone or iPad when the night ends. SnoreLab and Pillow record audio but don’t transcribe it.
Is there a free alternative to SnoreLab?
Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore is free every night: recording, sound labelling, minutes of snoring and transcripts, with your last 7 nights. Premium adds full history and 12-week patterns. SnoreLab has a more detailed snore measure if you need one.
Do snoring apps upload my recordings?
It depends on the app. Sleep Talk Recorder & Snore and Pillow keep recordings on the device. SnoreLab uploads audio only with Premium cloud backup or if you opt in to research. Check each app’s privacy policy.
