Your plants, kept on your phone. PlantCoach identifies your plants and decides their watering entirely on your iPhone. No account, no analytics, no tracking. Your photos and history sync only through your own private iCloud.
Who we are
Stationify Oy (Business ID: 3608699-3, D-U-N-S: 369301281) is a software company based in Helsinki, Finland. PlantCoach is published on the Apple App Store by Stationify Oy.
Our privacy principle
We believe people own their data. PlantCoach follows one rule: nothing leaves your device except through Apple services you already trust. Plant identification and the daily watering verdict both run on-device. We do not operate a backend, user accounts, tracking systems, or analytics platforms.
Data we collect
The short answer: as little as possible. The table below describes the categories of data PlantCoach handles.
| Data type | Collected? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Plant photos | On-device + your iCloud | Photos are analysed on-device by Apple's Vision framework to identify the species. They are stored in your own private iCloud (via CloudKit) so your plants sync across your Apple devices. They are never sent to Stationify — we have no server to send them to. |
| Plant details & watering history | On-device + your iCloud | Species, indoor/outdoor placement, room, and watering dates are stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud. This is what the on-device verdict is computed from. |
| Coarse location | Used, not stored | For outdoor plants, PlantCoach requests reduced-accuracy (city-level) location and passes it to Apple WeatherKit to fetch a local forecast. It is used for that one lookup and is never persisted or shared. |
| Weather forecast | In-memory only | Forecast data comes from Apple WeatherKit, is held in memory to compute an outdoor plant's verdict, and is never re-sent anywhere. |
| HomeKit temperature & humidity | On-device only | If you grant HomeKit access, PlantCoach reads ambient temperature and humidity from your sensors to refine indoor dry-down predictions. Read-only — it never controls or writes to your home accessories. |
| Purchases | Apple-verified | PlantCoach reads your subscription status from Apple StoreKit to unlock Pro features. We never see or store payment card data. |
| Personal information (name, email, phone) | No | We do not collect personal identifiers. No account is required. |
| Usage analytics & tracking | No | We do not use analytics SDKs, ad trackers, or third-party telemetry. PlantCoach does not ask for tracking permission because it does not track you. |
| Advertising data | No | We do not display ads or participate in ad networks. |
| Device identifiers | No | We do not read or store IDFA or hardware identifiers for our own purposes. |
| Diagnostics & crash data | Apple only | If you opt in to share diagnostics with developers via iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with anonymised crash reports. We do not operate our own crash-reporting service. |
Camera & photo permission
PlantCoach requests camera access when you choose to photograph a plant, and photo-library access when you pick an existing photo. Images are processed on-device to identify the species; the camera is never used outside an explicit add-a-plant action.
Location permission
Location is requested in context the first time you open an outdoor plant, and only at reduced (city-level) accuracy. It is used solely to fetch a local weather forecast from Apple WeatherKit so PlantCoach can skip watering when rain is on the way. Your location is not stored and is never shared with anyone but Apple's weather service.
HomeKit
HomeKit access is optional. When granted, PlantCoach reads your room names (to organize plants) and ambient temperature and humidity from any sensors you have (to fine-tune indoor watering predictions). It is strictly read-only — PlantCoach never triggers scenes or controls your accessories.
Third-party services
PlantCoach does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or social-media SDKs. The only services involved are Apple's own, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy:
- Apple Vision — for on-device plant identification
- Apple Foundation Models — for the on-device watering verdict
- Apple WeatherKit — for outdoor forecast lookups
- Apple StoreKit — for subscription verification
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit — for syncing your plants across your own devices
Data storage & security
Plant data and photos are stored locally on your device and in your own private iCloud database, protected by your Apple ID and iOS data protection. There is no Stationify server in the loop. You can remove everything by deleting a plant, or by deleting the app and clearing its iCloud data from iOS Settings.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children under 13. Because PlantCoach does not collect personal data, it complies with COPPA and similar regulations by design.
Data retention
We do not retain any user data because we do not collect any on our side. Your plants, photos, and history exist only on your device and in your private iCloud. When you delete them — or delete the app and its iCloud data — they are gone.
Your rights
Under GDPR and other privacy regulations, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete. All data remains under your control on your own device and in your iCloud.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If PlantCoach introduces new data practices, we will update both this policy and the app's App Store privacy label before the change takes effect.
